bwForCluster NEMO Hardware Delivery

bwForCluster NEMO hardware has arrived at the Rechenzentrum

The hardware for the bwForCluster NEMO has finally arrived at the Rechenzentrum and the nodes have already been moved into their designated racks. There is still a lot of work to be done by the vendor before the new supercomputer can be formally handed over to the Rechenzentrum, but we expect this process to be completed in a few weeks from now.

In the morning, a truck with a trailer, both fully loaded with the boxes containing the parts for the University's new Supercomputer, arrived at the Rechenzentrum. Although there was quite a bit of logistic involved, especially for unloading the trailer, it took less than an hour to transfer the boxes to their temporary storage area on the 1st floor of the Rechenzentrum.

The boxes were unpacked right away and the compute nodes moved in batches to the basement into the the machine hall. Since the rails had been installed beforehand, the installation of the nodes went smoothly and this part of the installation work was completed the same day.

Unloading, unboxing and installation is done by the vendor, and we were very impressed by the professional way in which this was handled.

There is still some work ahead before we can make the bwForCluster available to our scientific communities. We will keep you up to date.
